Notice is hereby given that on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 following the regular meeting which is scheduled for 6:30 pm at the Town Hall of the Town of Pierce a PUBLIC HEARING on the PROPOSED 2023 BUDGET of the Town of Pierce will be held.  The proposed budget will be available for inspection at the Town Hall display case, the Grove display case and the Town Website or by calling the Town Clerk at (920) 255-1507. 


NOTICE OF SPECIAL TOWN MEETING
OF THE ELECTORS OF THE TOWN OF PIERCE

Notice is hereby given that on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, immediately following the completion of the Public Hearing on the proposed year 2023 budget, at the Town Hall of the Town of Pierce, a SPECIAL TOWN MEETING OF THE ELECTORS is called, pursuant to Sec. 60.12(1) (b) of the Wis. Statutes, by the Town Board for the following purposes:


1.To approve the total year 2023 highway expenditures.
2.To approve the salary increase for the Town Clerk.
3.To adopt the 2022 Pierce Town Tax Levy to be paid in 2023.

RETURNED CHECK POLICY   


Policy for the disposition of personal or corporate checks returned to the
Town of Pierce for non-sufficient funds (NSF).

ACCEPTANCE OF CHECKS
Current telephone number and mailing address should be noted on all checks.


The Town of Pierce specifically reserves the right to refuse to accept any personal checks from individuals or corporate entities who, in the opinion of the Town Board, habitually tender checks drawn on accounts with non-sufficient funds.

NON-SUFFICENT FUND (NSF) CHECK RETURN PROCEDURES

For Real Estate or Personal Property Tax Payments the following process shall be followed:

a) The Treasurer or their designee shall send a letter to the check bearer of the NSF check informing the bearer that the check has been returned and that the total amount due – the original transaction amount, the actual/current bank NSF fee and the town’s NSF fee of $15.00 is due within 10 calendar days.  Payment cannot be made using a personal check.   


b) The letter shall also indicate that the transaction that was paid for using an NSF check has been reversed in the system and that interest continues to accrue on the tax account if applicable.

The Treasurer or their designee will prepare a separate deposit receipt and deposit the NSF check payment in the bank.

For all Other Transactions the following process shall be followed:

a) The Treasurer or their designee shall send a letter to the check bearer of the NSF check informing the bearer that the check has been returned and that the total amount due – the original transaction amount, the actual/current bank NSF fee and the town’s NSF fee of $15.00 is due within 10 calendar days.  Payment cannot be made using a personal check. 

b) The letter shall also indicate that the transaction that was paid for using an NSF check has been reversed in the system and that interest continues to accrue on the account if applicable.

The Treasurer or their designee will prepare a separate deposit receipt and deposit the NSF check payment in the bank.

If legal action is necessary to collect funds owed to the Town of Pierce on a non-negotiable check, the check bearer shall be liable for all expenses incurred by the Town of Pierce for said collection action, including reasonable attorneys’ fees.

This policy may be waived by the Town of Pierce Board in the event that written notification is received from the bank acknowledging that the error was theirs.

This policy shall be effective immediately.
